The Jitters

The darkness was terrifying. She couldn’t see anything properly. It were all just sinister shadows. She kept hearing sounds coming from distance which felt, to her, like running footsteps. Is it someone running towards her? Is someone coming to harm her? She looked around but couldn’t see the source of the noise.

A dog howled at a distance and an owl hooted – all of which were were clearly audible to her. Tears pooled in her eyes, but she blinked them away, wanting to have a clear sight of her surroundings. Suddenly, she saw big and sinister looking shadows. This was beyond what she could bear and all she could take. She bolted out of her room and dashed into the room next door.

Finally cuddled next to her sleeping parents, the toddler gave a sigh of relief and closed her tiny eyes to sleep. Nestled under the safe arms of her parents, now she wasn’t scared of the closet monsters anymore.
